Membership in the Bar Association of the District of Columbia is a statement that you are
interested in matters related to the practice of law in the District of Columbia.
We are a voluntary bar association, as contrasted with the District of Columbia Bar,
in which membership is mandatory. Our group, with a broadly inclusive membership,
has provided leadership and direction for the Washington legal community since its
founding in 1871. We proudly note that those whose names appear on this web site
have made a decision to shoulder the responsibility of taking more than a minimal part in
the legal affairs of our area.
